Tender launched for 100 MW solar project in North Macedonia
Macedonian state-owned Elektrani na Severna Makedonija (ESM) launched a tender in an effort to find a strategic partner for the public-private partnership project of designing, building and operating a 100 MW photovoltaic power plant in Oslomej. Contract is to last for a period of 35 years after which the unit’s ownership will be transferred to the public partner. The new unit is to be built upon the depleted lignite mines of the former 125 MW thermal power plant. The investment is estimated at €80 million.
At present, a 10 MW photovoltaic unit is already under construction in the same locality. The unit is estimated at €8.7 million and is being financed with the help of a €5.9 million loan from EBRD.
Both units are in line with the new national energy strategy envisioning a decarbonisation of the Macedonian generation portfolio and the increased implementation of renewable energy sources. The first step on this path is the instalment of 200 MW of solar and 150 MW of wind power.
